This course teaches you how to combine mat and reformer-based workouts for increased variety and intensity. Upon completion of this course you are able to further motivate group classes and customize personal training sessions for a range of clients-from post rehabilitation patients to elite athletes.

MG_8366By the end of this course, you are able to fine tune both personal and circuit training pro-grams to meet a variety of your clients’ conditioning goals — from post-rehabilitation to athletic performance enhancement.

Prerequisites:  IMP or IR.

Course duration:  50 hours instruction and supervised teaching. Minimum 10 hours observation, 40 hours physical review, 25 hours practice teaching – conducted over three weeks or four weekends.

Pilates1901 will be offering the Intensive Cadillac, Chair & Barrels course in three separate modules, so you can choose what specialty you want to take and when!

*Completion of all three modules is required to be eligible for certification. And now you only need IR or IM to participate, not both to participate!

The Knee: Reformer Programming for Stability and Function

The knee is a complex structure that can experience any number of injuries or conditions that interrupt normal functioning. This lecture/demo-style workshop, developed by the Merrithew™ team, begins by exploring the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal, healthy functioning of the knee, followed by a discussion of some of the more common dysfunctions caused by injury or disease.  

Learning objectives:

  1. Understand the optimal function and movement patterns of the knee joint.
  2. Review anatomy, biomechanics and muscular components.
  3. Understand how common dysfunctions can cause pain and discomfort.
  4. Learn exercises and progressions on the Reformer to optimize knee joint function.

Matwork Strength & Mobility

Comprised of a series of simple movements that challenge overall strength and mobility with stability, this workshop developed by the Merrithew™ team, uses only the body’s own resistance. Fundamental Pilates principles are added to less traditional moves to focus on mobilization while balancing the musculature around the joints.

Learning objectives:

  1. Apply the Five Basic Principles of STOTT PILATES ® to modified Matwork exercises.
  2. Understand how alignment and biomechanics can be improved through Matwork.
  3. Learn simple movement patterns that focus on strength and endurance.
  4. Discover how to create programs that improve functionality simply.

Vertical Frame

Learn to replicate the majority of Essential-level exercises normally performed on the Cadillac using the Vertical Frame on any model of STOTT PILATES® Reformer.

  2. Explore how various parts of the apparatus can be used to target specific areas.
  3. Discuss positioning and technique of each movement.
