_MG_8274All of you T-Schoolers are AMAZING and are working SO hard. We are very proud of you and you should be extremely proud of yourselves. We know that some days and weeks are harder than others, and sometimes it can be easy to feel a little unmotivated. That’s when it’s important to remind ourselves of all of the benefits that will result from this hard work!

Thankfully, Fitness Magazine wrote an article that clearly outlines the unique benefits of Pilates training. Read on to check them out and then give yourself a pat on the back!

It’s great for your abs.

Pilates is designed to work that core in ways that no other workout routine can. According to a study from Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, with 36 weeks of Pilates training, women strengthened their abs by an average of 21%, while eliminating muscle imbalances between the right and left sides of their core.

It can help to relieve back pain.

By stabilizing your core through Pilates, you can help to better support your back muscles. Those with chronic lower pack pain who did Pilates for four weeks experienced more relief from back pain that those who went to a physician or other specialist, and their pain was relieved for a full year after those Pilates sessions. This research came from a study published in the Journal of Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy.

It provides minimal impact on your joints.

The slower and more and controlled your movements are, the easier your workout is on your joints. The Pilates reformer also helps to take the pressure off your back and knees. This is why Pilates can be especially great for individuals with knee or shoulder issues, or those who are recovering from surgery. As always, talk to your doctor about your workout routines if you experiencing any of these issues.

It helps you focus.

Set aside the worries and stresses of your daily life and look inward. Pilates forces you to concentrate on the moment-at-hand by focusing on your breath, your body, and the connection between the two.

It makes sex better.

Well, look who just woke up! Do we have your attention now? For women, Pilates can help to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles which can lead to better orgasms. Plus, if that great sex happens to lead to pregnancy, a strong pelvic floor will be beneficial during delivery and recovery.

If you’re a runner, dancer, golfer, yoga enthusiast, or tennis player, you may begin to see how Pilates has improved your performance in these other physical endeavors. Pilates helps your core get strong which will help with your Sirsasana (headstand) and let you run faster.

It can improve your flexibility.

One study found that without any prior Pilates experience, women became 19.1% more flexible after 20 Pilates sessions. Not only will greater flexibility improve your range of motion, it can help to prevent serious injuries.

It can make you smarter.

You T-Schoolers are obviously already intelligent, but extra brainpower couldn’t hurt, right? Researchers in China found that after 10 weeks of Pilates training, women increased their brain’s alpha peak power, which is responsible for memory performance, and other cognitive functions.

We hope these Pilates benefits can give you the little bit of extra encouragement you need to get through the next couple of weeks to your goal! Of course, be sure to check in with your Coaches when you need some support…that’s what they’re there for!
